A sun-kissed day on Playa Venao

¡HOLA! SO NICE TO MEET YOU!

I’m Freya, founder of Take Two PTY.  I am not the stereotypical retiree or digital nomad expat. I am a 52 year-old mom of two grown children who has a lot of living left to do and I didn’t want to wait 15 more years to start.  While my kids are creating their own space in life, I’m creating mine here–at least for the time being. After one year, I can honestly say, “I’ve learned so much and no regrets.”

There is nothing that I love more than traveling to new places and waking up with a plan for all the new things I’m going to see and do that day. It was a personal goal of mine to create that feeling for my everyday life, so this is my “take two”: living as a expat in Ciudad de Panama.

To be honest, Panama was never really on my radar. The first time I ever saw Panama was on House Hunters International; I wrote it off as “always looking cloudy,” and left it that. However, in 2022, I had the opportunity to visit a friend here in the capital city and it was pretty much love at first sight.  As I researched this tiny tropical gem prior to my trip, I began to realize that it has so much to offer: a safe, politically and economically stable country with a warm climate, beautiful beaches, endless places to hike and the sweetest animals.

This city inspires and invigorates my soul with its juxtaposition of Spanish colonial architecture against a modern metropolis, rainforests just minutes away and mountain views right outside my window. Here, I feel alive: I am perfecting my Spanish, spending more time outdoors, and creating adventures and memories to last a lifetime.

SHARING IS CARING

What might feel like a marathon journey, will most likely be worth it at the end of the day. However, figuring out if Panama is for you is a such personal process. I wanted to create this blog, not just as a creative outlet, but as a way connect with people in the same boat. What do I wish I knew before? What, if anything, would I do differently?

Feel free to reach out if you I can answer any questions or provide my personal perspective. I’m glad to help.
